Congratulations Mr Tucker!
Congratulations to Mr Tucker for taking out the Outstanding Teacher of STEM Award at the recent Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence.
The Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence in STEM Education recognise students, teachers, support officers, schools and education partners (volunteers, mentors and organisations) who demonstrate an outstanding and innovative contribution to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education in Queensland.
Mr Tucker was the only award winner from the Bundaberg region.
Mr Tucker said one of the most rewarding experiences was seeing that light bulb moment experienced in real time.
“Watching students grow in knowledge and confidence is a terrific privilege and is the drive behind my continued passion for teaching,” he said.
“I find STEM very exciting. I never know exactly what a project will produce at the end, and the students never cease to amaze me with their unique view of the world.”
“Without the support of the leadership team at Shalom College, the resources and opportunities would not be there for the students, and I would not be able work on the STEM programs.
“So, this award is very much a reflection of that school support, and I am very conscious of that.
“Winning this award is also an opportunity to show our school community that there are meaningful STEM opportunities available to our students.
“To be acknowledged from outside of the school and the school community gives greater weight to the positive STEM outcomes at Shalom College.”
Congratulations again to Mr Tucker!
