Year 11 Retreat
In the last week of Term 3 the Year 11 cohort travelled to Alexandra Headlands for a three-day retreat. The retreat program, as in previous years, was facilitated by Michael Fitzpatrick. The Year 11 students engaged in the planned activities and discussions with a wonderful attitude and have returned ready to embrace the role of student leaders.
Edmund Rice Camp
The annual Edmund Rice Camp was held during the second week of the school holidays. Senior students took on the role of ‘Big Buddies’ to the invited ‘Little Buddies’ nominated by local primary school chaplains. As a first-time camper, I particularly enjoyed seeing past students return to Shalom for the week to oversee the running of the camp. Many staff members also willingly gave up part of their holidays to assist in a multitude of ways. My conclusion at the end of the week was that the experience of participating in an Eddie Rice Camp is highly valuable and transformative for everyone involved.
Young Voices Award
Australian Catholics magazine recently ran the ‘Young Voices Awards’ to highlight social justice and environmental hotspots amid a climate for change. A few of our students got involved. Ellah H (Year 7) obtained a highly commended in the intermediate section for her digital entry titled Plastic – Not so Fantastic. Congratulations Ellah!
Class Masses
Each Religious Education class is allocated to a Wednesday morning 8am Mass in Loyola Chapel. The class, along with another, co-hosts this Parish Mass by taking the roles of readers and processors. When your student has an upcoming class Mass, you will receive a notification or an invitation to attend. We warmly welcome all to this weekly joint Parish School celebration. The Year 8 classes will be hosting over the next few weeks:
• Wednesday 11 October Liturgy of the Word
• Wednesday 18 October Mrs Schuler's 8.1 and 8.6
