Last term the Shalom Girls participated in the QLD All Schools Basketball Tournament held at Coomera. Shalom played Mansfield SHS in the cross overs and the game was a cracker - going into overtime. Unfortunately Shalom losing 53-47. This placed Shalom in the quarter finals of the bottom half of Div 2 (playing off for 9th - 16th place). In the Quarters, the girls played Somerville House, winning 43-35 and in the Semi's, defeating Somerset College 39-33. Shalom advanced to the 9th/10th playoff and faced Capalaba SHS for the second time. Capalaba were too good on the day defeating Shalom 48-25. The Shalom Open Girls finished in 10th place in Div 2. A fantastic achievement with such a young team. Thanks to all of the parents for their support at the games and to the sponsors of the Girls Basketball Team - Bundaberg Physio, Strata Services, Footmotion and Kinectic. A special thanks to Mrs Giles for the endless hours of training with these girls.

Queensland Championship Regatta Success
The first three days of the school holidays, 28 of our rowers took on the best in the state in the Queensland Championships Regatta. Over 840 athletics competed from 50 different schools. It was the biggest regatta ever held in Queensland and we were lucky enough to have it locally at Bucca. It was so nice to see the Bundaberg community come together to put on an oarsome event.
Our outstanding results over the 3 days included:
Girls Year 9 Single Semi - Sophie E
Boys Year 10 Doubles Semi - Ryan S & Jacob N
Girls Year 10 Single Semi & Yearr 11 Single Final 7th overall – Jada C
Boys Year 8 Single Semi - Max L & Balin C
Boys Year 8 Double Final 8th Overall – Max L & Wade C
Boys Year 8 Double Semi - Stanley M & Balin C
Boys Year 8 Quad Final 7th overall - Max L, Wade C, Balin C & Stan M cox Torah S
Boys Year 8 Quad – Final 8th overall - Ryder D, Zander D, Zac W & Dylan A cox Nat R
Considering over half our team is new and have only been rowing for 7 months, these results are remarkable. The youngest age group in Rowing Queensland events is Year 8. Our Year 7s had to row up in the Year 8 age group. Exceptional results from Max L, Wade C, Balin C & Stanley M for making it into semis and finals despite being younger. Their determination definitely contributes to their success.
Also, a big congratulations to our 13 rowers that made the Wide Bay Crews and proudly represented our region in the Inter-regional races on Saturday; Archie B, Emily E, Marlene D, Montana W, Jada C, Sophie E, Jacob N, Ryan S, Jacob B, Dylan A, Stanley M, Zac W & Zander D.
The biggest thank you again to all the coaches, parents and volunteers that make these events possible. Also, to our sponsors that helped us purchase our new uniform this year. The States regatta brings an end to our school season for rowing. We are still training for fun and fitness and are keen to get new rowers onboard ready for next year. Look out for our come and try sessions later in the term. Week 6 we will have sessions available for current students and also in Week 7 for any Year 6s that are interested in trying a new sport in high school. More details to come.

Table Tennis Final - Term 3 School Sport Recap
After the end of the Table Tennis season, Shalom teams finished third and fourth, meaning both teams qualified for the finals on the morning of Tuesday 12 September. Unfortunately, Shalom 1 had to forfeit due to having only one player available, allowing BCC 2 a straight run to the final. Isaac M acquitted himself well, winning both games in a dead rubber.
Shalom 2 was also disadvantaged with only two players – meaning they had to forfeit three of the nine games from their match. Oscar Q and Ronald P played well against a skillful BCC 1 team, but were unable to hold off their opponents in a very close contest – going down four games to five. This left Shalom 2 in third place overall for the season, with BCC 1 claiming the trophy.
Thanks to all players involved this season for their participation and keen spirit.
We look forward to more players joining table tennis next year to bolster our team numbers.

Shalom Tennis Success - Term 3 Finals Day Recap
Joke: What time does Novak Djokovic go to bed? Answer : Tennish
Congratulations to all tennis players from Shalom who competed in Term 3 Wednesday afternoon tennis. The aim is always to have the most players on the court from any school, and we achieved that again this year. It was fantastic to see an all-Shalom Grand Final in Both Division A and Division B - an outstanding result.
In Division A, Shalom Red (Lachlan C, Xander W and Eddie R) defeated Shalom Black (Zain A, Lachlan R and Harry K) in the Grand Final by 18-6. The quality of tennis played was very high and was impressive to watch. We are very lucky to have so many talented players at our school.
In Division B, Shalom Black (Chase S, Jack H, Cooper H and Isaac T) defeated Shalom Red (Jack M, Blake W, Mia B and Lachlan D) by a score of 16-4. This was a well-deserved victory with Shalom Black performing consistently well throughout the term. Shalom Red, with some players who have played little tennis before showed great natural talent to defeat a number of teams to make the Grand Final.
Hopefully all players are keen to have a game again next year. Mr Hubbard and I could not be prouder of the efforts of the Shalom players. As usual, keep up to date with the latest developments, photos news etc in Shalom tennis via the Shalom Tennis Sia page:
