St Vincent de Paul Homelessness Awareness Evening

Last Thursday night we held a Homelessness Awareness Evening for students from all year levels. Approximately 40 students worked together to complete a series of activities that Michael Siccama, our Vinnies Youth Engagement and Development Facilitator, prepared for them.

A meal of soup and bread was shared by participants before they were challenged with building a shelter from empty boxes and other available resources. While the students had fun participating in the activities, the intent of the evening was for them to develop a clearer understanding of this social issue along with empathy for those affected.

Thank you to Michael and Mrs Cheryl Petersen, Campus Minister, for organising this event, and to the many staff members who contributed in other ways.

Remembering Mr James Kiernan

Throughout the last two weeks our thoughts and prayers have not strayed far from our teacher and colleague, James, and his family. Students have been given opportunities to share their thoughts, including adding to the Rosary College on the day of his funeral, last Wednesday. A collection of messages from our students will be given to the Kiernan family. The messages that James’ young students wrote demonstrate the very special relationship that he had with so many of them.
