Queensland Schools Table Tennis Championships – Bundaberg Round
On Saturday 4 November, three teams from Shalom competed in the Bundaberg round of the Queensland Schools Table Tennis Championships. Teams of two played four singles and a doubles game against each opposition school.
In the Open Boys division, Isaac M and Michael R played against highly ranked teams from Bundaberg High (two teams) and Bundaberg Christian College. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts and some close games, Isaac and Michael were unable to come away with a win in any of their match-ups.
The Junior Girls division saw Christina L and Meredith S play against teams from Kepnock and St Lukes. The girls dominated with many comfortable wins and only losing one game (out of 10) in a very tight 3-setter. Christina and Meredith were the clear winners on the day. Congratulations, Christina and Meredith.
Lincoln C and Oscar Q competed in the Junior Boys division playing four matches back-to-back against three teams from Bundaberg Christian College and one from St Lukes. Lincoln and Oscar were dominant against the BCC teams, winning 14 of 15 games – the only loss in a 3-setter with two games going beyond 11 points. St Lukes had a very strong team, with the winner only being decided by the doubles match – the last match of the day. St Lukes clinched the win by the narrowest of margins, winning both games 11-9 and 12-10, leaving the Shalom team in second place for their division. Congratulations, Lincoln and Oscar.
Both of our Junior teams now qualify to compete at the State Championships in Brisbane on 1 December. Well done to all of our players for their participation, exceptional behaviour, and fantastic sportsmanship.
