Mission

Ash Wednesday

Wednesday 14 February was Ash Wednesday. This day marks the beginning of the Church’s season of Lent which is a time of preparation for the Resurrection of Jesus and the season of Easter. At Ash Wednesday services, Christians have ashes placed on their foreheads as a public expression of their faith and humility. The College hosted an Ash Wednesday Mass in Loyola before school and then the blessed ashes were distributed to students and staff during a prayer service in House Assemblies.

Project Compassion

Throughout Lent we encourage a commitment to justice through almsgiving. Once again, this year we will be asking for donations to Project Compassion. The money raised is used by Caritas, both in Australia and internationally, to support the most vulnerable people. Their programs seek to educate and empower. The positive outcomes from Caritas programs extend across generations, making lasting change and righting injustices. A collection box is available in each House area or donations can be made online at https://www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion/donate

Year 12 Induction

The families of our Year 12 students were recently emailed an invitation to the Induction ceremony which will occur on the Thursday 7 March, at 10am in the Sports Centre. There is no need to RSVP this year, but we are asking families to limit themselves to 4 guests, if possible, to ensure adequate seating. If you have any questions, please call, or email me.

Masses

Gathering as a community to participate in Mass is central to being Catholic. As a Catholic School, we provide opportunities for students and staff to participate in Masses, regardless of their own faith background or none. Therefore, each House will join with another, to celebrate a House Mass during one of their timetabled Assembly times in Term 2 or Term 3.

Each Religious Education class will also cohost a Wednesday morning Mass at 8am in our chapel. This Mass occurs during term time and is a Parish Mass, so it is open to all. The Mass finishes before the 8.40am bell. Religious Education teachers will email a notice to families prior to their allocated Mass, and we encourage attendance. Upcoming Masses will be hosted by our Senior students.
