Independently, two friends of mine shared some wisdom with me that I thought I would ‘pay forward’ to all of you. The first is something of a reflection on the poor state of discourse in our world -

“Being taught to avoid talking about politics and religion has led to a lack of understanding of politics and religion. What we should have been taught was how to have a civil conversation about a difficult topic.”

It is such a shame now that so many topics are ‘off limits’ among friends and family because civility and respect just go out the window.

The other piece was forwarded to me, probably circulating on social media, but it touched me a little. I hope it does for someone else -

You start dying slowly ; if you do not travel, if you do not read,
If you do not listen to the sounds of life, If you do not appreciate yourself.
You start dying slowly :
When you kill your self-esteem, When you do not let others help you.
You start dying slowly ;
If you become a slave of your habits, Walking everyday on the same paths...
If you do not change your routine, If you do not wear different colours Or you do not speak to those you don't know.

If you avoid to feel passion And their turbulent emotions;
Those which make your eyes glisten And your heart beat fast.
You start dying slowly :
If you do not risk what is safe for the uncertain
If you do not go after a dream, If you do not allow yourself At least once in your lifetime To run away from sensible advice
Don't let yourself die slowly
Do not forget to be happy!

Shalom College Open Day - is on tomorrow and we look forward to welcoming lots of young people and families who might be considering Shalom as an educational environment for their child. Applications close for Year 7, 2025 on Friday 19 April 2024. Current families please remember that an enrolment application is required for all students commencing in 2025.

Leadership Induction Liturgy will occur this Thursday at 10am. We will formally invite to the journey of Leadership our Year 12 class for 2024. I hope they clearly know that this is an invitation and we look forward to the positive response from every individual in the group.
