Fr Peter Doherty’s Ordination
On Thursday 22 February a group of students and staff travelled to St Joseph’s Cathedral, Rockhampton to witness the Presbyteral Ordination of past Shalom student, Peter Doherty. The Cathedral was full of people, making it a wonderful celebration, despite the heat. Our Campus Minister, Mrs Cheryl Petersen, joined the choir, while our Parish Priests, Fr Don White, and Fr Sijo George, along with many parishioners, also made the journey north to participate in the service.
We congratulate Fr Peter Doherty on his ordination to the Presbyterate for the Diocese of Rockhampton and we are proud of his connection to Shalom College. We warmly welcome Fr Peter Doherty back to Shalom this Wednesday as he celebrates the 8am Mass in Loyola Chapel.

Crazy Hair and Socks Day
Throughout Lent we encourage a commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through Project Compassion. The money raised is used by Caritas to educate and empower. The positive outcomes from Caritas programs extend across generations, making lasting change and righting injustices. To help us fund raise for this great cause, we will be having a Crazy Hair and Socks Day on Thursday 14 March. Students must still wear their normal uniform but they can swap out their socks for something more fun and/or have crazy hairstyles for the day. Of course, this will require a gold coin donation to Project Compassion. If you would like to support Project Compassion this Lent, you can contribute online at https://www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion/donate
Masses
Gathering as a community to participate in Mass is central to being Catholic. As a Catholic School, we provide opportunities for students and staff to participate in Masses, regardless of their own faith background or none. Therefore, each House will join with another, to celebrate a House Mass during one of their timetabled Assembly times in Term 2 or Term 3.
Each Religious Education class will also cohost a Wednesday morning Mass at 8am in our chapel. This Mass occurs during term time and is a Parish Mass, so it is open to all. The Mass finishes before the 8.40am bell. Religious Education teachers will email a notice to families prior to their allocated Mass, and we encourage attendance. Upcoming Masses will be hosted by our Senior students.
