Term one, 2024 began at a gallop and suddenly here we are over halfway through.

The first event out of the gates is Somerset Storyfest on the Gold Coast. This annual event is a popular adventure for our senior literature students, however this year because of timing we will be taking year 11 students only.

Looking further, the junior and seniors regional Reader’s Cup is coming up in terms 2 and 3 respectively and already meetings are being held to encourage our avid readers to express their interest. This year teachers will be aided by senior student ambassadors to mentor the contestants and prepare them for the rigors of the competition.

Later in the year we will hold Shalom’s First Draft Writers Festival, this year though we may be adding a special feature for our younger cohorts. And hot on the back of that event, Shalom will celebrate Book Week – plans are being fleshed out to full take advantage of the exciting theme for 2024: ‘Reading is magic’.
