Year 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commencement Celebrations
During Week 6, a group of ten First Nations students participated in the annual Year 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commencement Celebrations in Rockhampton. This event brought together students from various schools within the Catholic Diocese, including those from Mackay, Emerald, Rockhampton, and Gladstone. Throughout the three-day event, students engaged in team-building exercises, leadership activities, and explored various career opportunities. A highlight of the event was an inspiring speech delivered by guest speaker, Sid Domic, a former professional rugby league player and renowned Indigenous artist. A special Mass at St Joseph's Cathedral was held to celebrate the Year 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commencement, where the students were blessed by Bishop Michael and presented with their 2024 Year 12 Indigenous Leader badges.
