Mission

Last Tuesday we welcomed Uncle Chris and Everett Johnson to officially begin the 2023 school year through a traditional smoking ceremony. As a Traditional Owner, Gooreng Gooreng man Uncle Chris Thiesfield, was able to Welcome us to Country and share his knowledge of the ceremony. Everett performed a traditional welcoming song in Gooreng Gooreng language and also translated it into English. By sharing their knowledge and culture, they reminded us that learning and ceremony have taken place on this land over many thousands of years.

Our guests were introduced by two of our Year 12 Lingiari students, Patrick C and Finlay C.  Inspired by their House patron, Vincent Lingiari, they led us in prayer following the traditional ceremony. The Lingiari House prayer, written by the first cohort of Lingiari House students in 2011, is a simple expression of the values they have drawn from Vincent’s example.

Lord,

Help us to stand up for what we believe in,
To respect and value others,
and to show persistence and determination as work for others, not just ourselves.

Amen.
