Mission

Laudato si’ Week and our Eco-Challenges

To begin Laudato si Week, staff participated in professional learning with Alice Carwardine, the national co-ordinator of Catholic Earthcare. The session helped staff to build their understanding of integral ecologies and the theological need to respond to the environmental crisis, both individually and as a school. Throughout last week we set eco-challenges that included recycling our pizza boxes and batteries, turning off lights and fans in unused classrooms and downloading the Recycle Mate app. We are also encouraging students to bring plastic free lunches as a small but worthwhile contribution. All these challenges can continue and become habits in our school. For example, if you have old batteries at home, please continue to send them into IT for recycling.

Edmund Rice Camp Volunteers - Year 11 & 12

The annual Eddie Rice Camp runs from 23 to 26 September, during the school holidays. We are currently looking for Year 11 and Year 12 students to volunteer as Big Buddies on camp. They will be joined by our past students who return each year to facilitate the camp in partnership with Edmund Rice Community Services. Students give up part of their holidays to help run the camp, and although it is tiring, they find the experience very rewarding. If a student missed the information and sign-up opportunity last week, they can contact Mr Michael Bundesen or Mrs Sandra Freeman to express their interest

Masses

Gathering as a community to participate in Mass is central to being Catholic. As a Catholic School, we provide opportunities for students and staff to participate in Masses, regardless of their own faith background or none. Therefore, each House will join with another, to celebrate a House Mass during one of their timetabled Assembly times in Term 2 or Term 3.

Each Religious Education class will also cohost a Wednesday morning Mass at 8am in our chapel. This Mass occurs during term time and is a Parish Mass, so it is open to all. The Mass finishes before the 8.40am bell. Religious Education teachers will email a notice to families prior to their allocated Mass, and we encourage attendance. Upcoming Masses will be hosted by our Senior students.
