Gymnastics
During the Holidays, Ari B represented Gymfinity MAG Gymnastics in two competitions.
- Victoria Park Gymnastics Invitationals - Rockhampton (Individual & Team Event)
- State Clubs Competition - Caloundra Sunshine Coast (Team Event)
Ari was awarded 1st place Overall Champion for MAG Level 4 in Victoria Park with the highest overall score for the day. Ari received six medals (3 gold, 2 silver & 1 bronze) over six apparatus he competed in on the day. These apparatus include Rings, High Bars, Pommel Horse, Parrel Bars, Vault & Floor.
Ari and his teammates competed well in the State Clubs competitions but unfortunately were not placed for this competition. This was a team-only event and unfortunately, they only had three competitors, however, it was a great experience for the boys.
Ari will be competing in the coming months with more competitions such as Invitationals, Regional Championships and then onto the State Championships.
Hockey
Congrats to Shalom students Courtney K and Sophie A who both gained selection in the U/14 QLD Embers Hockey team after playing for Bundaberg at the recent State Championships in Ipswich. They lead the Bundaberg team to 4th place in the State, which is an amazing achievement for such a small country hockey community competing against larger metropolitan communities.
Both Courtney and Sophie, ranked highly on the top goal scorers list for the tournament, with Courtney playing defence and Sophie playing Striker.
The QLD team will head to Perth in September to compete in the National Championships.
Indoor Cricket
Congratulations to Shalom student Toby L who represented QLD in the U18 Indoor Cricket National Championships in Melbourne and the won the National title!
Grand final: WA 101 - QLD 110
The victory was against the odds. WA were unbeaten all week until the GF.
Toby finished overall second top run scorer for the tournament.
Toby will soon head off to Mackay for the QLD Open Boys Outdoor Cricket exchange against NSW in August.
Junior Sedans
Congratulations to Shalom students AJ M and Baxter A who competed at the Qld titles for Junior Sedans in Maryborough prior to the school holidays. 43 cars competed and AJ (pictured) finished 2nd and Baxter finished 6th.
Karting Championships
Shalom student Ky B has had a busy month, with back to back racing, over 3 different countries, travelling over 41,000kms.
Started in Coffs Harbour where he competed in 2 categories, KA3 and KA2. This was treated as a practice round, in readiness for the Australian Kart Championships Rd4 taking place the following week. He won both classes.
Then he flew over to Slovakia where he competed in Rd2 of the FIA Karting Academy. Ky qualified 32nd which meant he had to work hard to move forward through the heats. Unfortunately a DNF (did not finish) in Heat 1 made it even harder. Ky worked hard in Heat 2 finishing 6th and in heat 3 finishing 9th. This was enough to qualify for the final where he started out of 24th. Ky showed pace and finished over the line in 6th, unfortunately a front fairing penalty dropped him back to 14th.
We returned to Australia and drove straight to Ipswich, where he competed in the QLD state championships. Ky was nominated in 2 categories KA3 and KA2. Both classes he was finishing in the top 5 for all heats. Unfortunately lacking in pace for KA3, Ky came 9th in the final. In his preferred category, KA2, he raced extremely well in the final and came away with 2nd.
He then flew over to Singapore, where he competed in the Asia Pacific Karting Championship at KF1 Circuit. The track is very different and hard on the body. He picked it up very quickly.
- Qualified 3rd
- Heat 1 2nd
- Heat 2 3rd
- Pre final 1st
- Final 1st
- Also fastest lap, and lap record.
As the champion for his class, Ky won a ticket to the Rok Cup Superfinal in Lonato, Italy.
Rowing
Our rowers smashed it at the Central Queensland Regatta. Our team doubled their performance compared to last year and finished 4th in the overall medal tally. Most of the rowers progressed from the heats and made it into the semis and finals. We could not be prouder of the team. Year 8 is the youngest age group in Rowing Queensland regattas, so seeing our Year 7 competing and making finals against Year 8s was oarsome! Congratulations to our medalists! Also we have a new record. Not 1, not 2 but 3 oars broken. Too much power in our rowers.

Tennis - Round 1 Wrap-Up
Congratulations to all Shalom tennis players for coming out in force and playing in Round 1 of Term 3 sport last Wednesday. It was fantastic to see so much red and black and the standard and spirit of play.
In Division A, the formidable Shalom Black was defeated by a strong St Luke’s Blue team 11-6 despite good singles win for our newest player Jack B. Shalom Blue’s combination of Harry K and Lara B defeated a depleted BCC Blue team 8-4. Shalom White received a forfeit from Bundy SHS while Shalom Red had a bye.
Division B saw Shalom Red defeating a determined Bundaberg SHS. The result came down to the last set where Lachlan D and Isaac T held their nerve to win the round for Shalom 14-12. Shalom Black, led by Gabe K and Tokoko W comfortably defeated BCC 14-4.
The points tables after Round 1 are below. Looking forward to Round 2 next week!
