NAPLAN 2024
Year 7 and Year 9 NAPLAN data was recently released to schools. We have been analysing our data to find our strength areas and any weakness areas that can be addressed. Pleasingly our school data is above the state in the areas of numeracy, writing, reading, grammar and punctuation. Our data is slightly below the state in spelling. Please see the following graphs showing our Year 7 and Year 9 data compared to the rest of Queensland.
Individual NAPLAN student reports were distributed to students during their PC lesson today. On the front page is an explanation on how to read the report. We encourage you to have a conversation with your student about their results. Further information on the NAPLAN individual reports can be found here:

Just a reminder that student results are now assessed in four proficiency levels:
Exceeding: The result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
Strong: The result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
Developing: The results indicate that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
Needs additional support: The results indicate that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
Year 10 Subject Selection & SET Plan Interviews
Last week all Year 10 students were sent an email from the Shalom College email address (Shalom@Shalomcollege.com) with a link to the Webchoices platform and their individual student access code. Hopefully by now your student is familiar with this online portal and how they are to complete their subject selections using the online form.
The SET Plan Interview booking information was also emailed to all Year 10 students and parents. Please use the link provided to select an interviewer and then select a suitable timeslot for your SET Plan interview. A reminder that when you and your student attend the interview, they need to bring with them their:
• fully charged laptop
• green SET Plan Form – A3 sheet
• Webchoices link and access code
• Printed Webchoices form (if already completed)
All interviews will take place on Monday 5 August during the scheduled 30 minute timeslot. This is a ‘work from home’ day for Year 10 students. No Year 10 classes will run at the college, this will allow the interviews to take place on this day. Students are to access their class work through SIA.
