Shalom student success – Gymnastics
The Central Queensland Regional Championships (Womens Artistic Gymnastics) were held on 4th August in Yeppoon. Shalom student Paige K competed strongly, placing second All Around in the Level 5 Open age group. She was also selected into the CQ Level 5 Regional Team to compete at State Champs in September. Paige had already qualified for States as an individual, so will compete twice in all 4 apparatus- vault, uneven bars, beam and floor at the event in Brisbane. Congratulations Paige!!
Karting
Ky B recently competed at the Australian Kart Championships Round 4 Coffs Harbour. It wasn’t the best start for him, qualifying 10th. He made up a few spots through the heats, to then finish the final on the podium P3. Ky is currently sitting in 3rd position, for the championship. The last round will be held in Oakleigh, Victoria at the end of August.
Ky also competed at the FIA Karting Academy Round 3 in Sweden. Ky had the pace in practice, however when it came to qualifying unfortunately there was a lack of pace. He qualified 21st. One minute it was sunny, the next raining. Going into the final Ky made up a few spots, starting out of 19th. With 3 laps to go, Ky had made his way up to 6th position, to only be taken out by another driver. Not the end to the series he would have liked, however unfortunately racing is racing.
Netball - Vicki Wilson Competition
Last week, the Shalom Junior Vicki Wilson netball team travelled to Brisbane to compete in the State Finals of the Vicki Wilson Competition. The Vicki Wilson Netball Competition is a long running, state-wide netball competition open to all schools (state and non-state).
In the junior division, the competition started back in April with 126 schools from across the state (Peninsula to Gold Coast). Regional winners then progressed to the 20-team State Final competition.
Placed in a pool which held the eventual runners-up (Moreton Bay College) and 5th placed (Mountain Creek SHS) teams, the Shalom College team played some excellent netball over the two days, taking a couple of big hits along the way in their playoff games (Glenala SHS and Canterbury College).
The girls finished in 10th place, which is their highest placing in this competition since 2019. It also means they finished as the highest placed regional school across both junior and senior divisions in the 2024 competition! Thanks to Mrs Pearson and Ms Burgess as well as Mr Kaufusi (Bus Driver).
Well done girls!
Shalom – Rowing
Please support Shalom Rowing’s Father’s Day Raffle. We are fundraising for a new safety boat & outboard. Our current safety boats have been repaired too many times & we need to start replacing them. Safety boats are essential to our sport as rowing is considered a high risk sport, with each crew needing a coach & safety boat on the water with them. Please share with your family & friends. How cool would it be give Dad one of these prizes for Father’s Day!!!

Congratulations to our Year 7/8 Boys on an impressive comeback victory over Xavier College, securing their spot in the Wide Bay regional final against Kingaroy SHS. Our Year 9 Boys faced a tough challenge against a combined Year 9/10 Xavier College team and came up just short in a close game. They showed strong dominance, particularly in defence, but were unable to capitalise on their opportunities. (Note: our year 10s were ineligible due to playing Dolphins Challenge).
The year 7/8 Boys will play this Wednesday 21 August at Jack Stokes Oval Gympie, kicking off at 12pm. The winner from this game will progress to play the winner from the Sunshine Coast Region.
Thank you, Mr. Rasmussen, for your time and dedication to coach the year 9 team. A big thank you as well to all the Year 9 boys for their commitment and hard work throughout the season.
