Welcome back to all our existing families and a big welcome to our new Shalom families.  2023 is set to be another great year at Shalom. 

Key staff who support our students are: Mrs O’Donnell (Pathways Coordinator), Mrs Allen (Senior School Coordinator), Mrs Munckton (Middle School Coordinator), Mrs Staley (Student Services Coordinator) and Mr Robinson (Student Welfare Coordinator).  I look forward to working together in partnership with you and our staff to assist your student the best way possible.

Subject Changes

Year 11 students and parents were advised of this process and timeline on 16 February via email.  Reminder that students and parents can access the interview booking sheet via SIA.  Deadline for changes is Friday 10 February.

Year 9 and 10 students who wish to make a subject change need to see either Mrs Munckton (Year 9) or Mrs Allen (Year 10) before Friday 3 February.  Please visit their office in Student Reception during lunch or afternoon tea during Week 1 or 2.

Students who wish to apply for a program amendment (study) due to an external course such as TAFE, a Traineeship or SUN you need to see Ms O'Donnell for the application form. These will not be processed until your course begins. 

Tutoring

Many college teachers voluntarily run tutorial sessions before, during and after school for a variety of subject areas and year levels. We will commence tutoring this week and the tutoring timetable has been published in this newsletter for your information.

Middle School

Year 7 and Year 9 students will sit the NAPLAN online tests from Wednesday 15 March – Monday 27 March.  There will be an opportunity for students to participate in practice NAPLAN tests from Monday 13 February – Friday 24 February.

If you have any concerns about NAPLAN or if you wish to withdraw your student from NAPLAN testing, please contact Megan Munckton, Middle School Coordinator, megan_munckton@shalomcollege.com.

Please note: all students MUST have corded headphones or earphones to undertake the NAPLAN Online testing. This is the responsibility of families to ensure that students have their earphones or headphones for all test days, including the practice test. These headphones/earphones must have a 3.5mm standard jack. Wireless headphones (e.g., Apple air pods) are not compatible. If you need to purchase headphones or earphones, we suggest you do this as soon as possible. The uniform shop has a small supply of earphones for $6.
