Mission

Easter Chocolates

Each year as Easter Sunday approaches, we try to promote the purchase of slavery-free chocolate. Much of the chocolate consumed this Easter will be produced using cocoa beans that have been harvested under conditions that are unsafe or restrict the education of children used as workers. While some chocolate companies have taken steps to address these issues, progress has been slow across the industry worldwide. Consumers can play a role in combating slavery in chocolate supply chains by choosing to buy from companies that have transparent and ethical sourcing practices, and by supporting advocacy efforts to hold the industry accountable.

“Every person ought to have the awareness that purchasing is always a moral – and not simply an economic – act.” – Pope Francis, World Day of Peace, 2015.

So, this Lent we ask that everyone in the Shalom community look for the Rainforest Alliance or Fairtrade International certifications when buying chocolate.

Masses

Gathering as a community to participate in Mass is central to being Catholic. As a Catholic School, we provide opportunities for students and staff to participate in Masses, regardless of their own faith background or none. Therefore, each House will join with another, to celebrate a House Mass during one of their timetabled Assembly times in Term 2 or Term 3.

Each Religious Education class will also cohost a Wednesday morning Mass at 8am in our chapel. This Mass occurs during term time and is a Parish Mass, so it is open to all. The Mass finishes before the 8.40am bell. Religious Education teachers will email a notice to families prior to their allocated Mass, and we encourage attendance. Upcoming Masses will be hosted by our year 11 and 12 students.

Wednesday 19 March  Mrs Nicole Harman's RAE 12D & RAE 11 A & E

Wednesday 26 March Ms Danni Bryson's RAE 12H & RAE 11H

Wednesday 2 April Mr Denis Sheehan's 11 CMT A & 11 RAE B

Also, if you would like to join in other Parish services, the Catholic Parish of Bundaberg advertises Mass times at https://www.bundabergcatholic.net.au/mass-prayer/
