CQUniversity Business Challenge 2025
The annual CQUniversity Business Challenge brought together 36 teams of students from more than 30 high schools across regional Queensland. Teams were tested on their concept knowledge, teamwork and innovation in the areas of Business, Economics, Accounting and Legal Studies.
Shalom was represented by two Year 12 teams in the first round on 7 May. Team 1 included Molly B, Tyler K, Chris S, and Ava P, finishing 4th in the Wide Bay region. Our second team - Chloe G, Mitchell E, Jonah S, and George H - tied for 1st place with Bundaberg North State High School and advanced to the Grand Finals on the 18 June, where they secured an impressive 2nd place overall just behind the Townsville team.
The Grand Final challenge was a case study on the mining company Rio Tinto, and students had to create a 10-15 minute video, focusing on one of Rio Tinto's main objectives. With a strict (and short) deadline, and giving up lunch times and after school, Team 2 arranged a professional presentation that was well researched and showcased their outstanding business skills.
As a result of their placing in the first round and their exceptional performance in the Grand Final, each member of Shalom Team 2 was awarded a scholarship of $1500, and our College earned $1000 in prizemoney.
We are incredibly proud of the achievements of the students in our Business, Legal Studies and Accounting classes and the way they represented Shalom College. Congratulations.
