In recent years, Shalom College has developed a wonderful relationship with Sr Cecilia and through her, the wider Woorabinda Community. Our Campus Minister, Mrs Cheryl Petersen, regularly travels to Woorabinda to deliver donations of requested items for Sr Cecilia who distributes them to where they are needed in the community. Not only Shalom, but our Catholic Primary Schools and the Catholic Parish of Bundaberg, have contributed to these drives. Coming together for these drives has highlighted that actions of caring for the vulnerable are at the core of our Catholic identity. Sr Cecilia will now enjoy her well-deserved retirement. Shalom staff representatives were able to join her in a thanksgiving morning tea and Mass last week. We hope to continue our relationship with the Woorabinda community in new ways but for now the donation drives will be put on hold.

Mackillop House Leaders attended the Feast Day Mass for their Patron, Saint Mary Mackillop, at Holy Rosary Church on Friday. The Mass was celebrated with Parishioners as well as students from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together in recognition of the life of Australia’s first saint and to give thanks for her dedication to the education ministry.

 

Each Religious Education class will also cohost a Wednesday morning Mass at 8am in our chapel. This Mass occurs during term time and is a Parish Mass, so it is open to all. The Mass finishes before the 8.40am bell. Religious Education teachers will email a notice to families prior to their allocated Mass, and we encourage attendance. Upcoming Masses will be hosted by our year 9 and 8 students.
