Instrumental Music News

Welcome to 2023 Instrumental Music Workshop and Concert

On the weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February members of the Intermediate Concert Band and Rochford String Ensemble came to the PAP for a two day workshop ending in a concert for family and friends.

Mrs Bernadette Connolly, Mr James Belluz and Mrs Megan Hoban lead the groups in pieces that they had mastered over the two days with help from Mr Michael Goodall and Ms Selena Rasmussen. While there was lots of music making and learning there was also time for games, pizza and an afternoon tea with a special welcome cake. A number of Year 12 musicians also attended the weekend which for them included a leadership session run by Mr Mark Connolly and mentoring our younger musicians in rehearsals. The weekend was a great success and will now be added to our yearly calendar!

The next concert for the Instrumental Music groups will be held in the PAP on Sunday 26 March where all the other ensembles will have a chance to show off what they have accomplished in rehearsals throughout Term One. More details to come so keep an eye on SIA for updates!

Home Grown Moments

On Wednesday 15 February students of the Rochford and Chamber String Ensembles were invited to attend a concert presented by Mornings @ the Moncrieff called “Home Grown Moments”. The concert featured our new lower strings specialist Mr Michael Goodall, past lower strings specialist Ms Alison Vercoe and three other talented “home grown” musicians Deakin Darby, Andrew Udal and Alison O’Malley.

This was a particularly wonderful experience for our cello and bass players as they got to see their instruments featured in the ninety minute performance.

Join the Choir!

The Shalom College Choir is a great way to start your week with rehearsals at 7:30am every Monday in the Band Room. Mrs Sweetapple selects great songs to sing and is always open to suggestions from the group. The choir has been steadily growing over the last few weeks with approximately fifteen new students every week.

The choir performs regularly throughout the year with the highlight being a trip to Brisbane for the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival and August.

If you would like to join simply show up at 7:30am on Monday!
