Shalom’s new Debate Club attended their first event last week - a training day run by the Queensland Debating Union. This event was an excellent start to the club’s year and for many of the students their first experience of debating.

The workshop’s focus was on formulating a team approach and structuring argument. The students learned how to formulate a case for their team and develop that case across each speaker’s presentation, including rebuttal! There was also time for some students to practice presenting their ideas.

Students from years 7 – 12 attended the day and now plan to participate in the Inter-School Debating competition in Term two as speakers or coaches. Practice of their skills will continue at club meetings each Friday during Term one. New members are always welcome!
