Shalom QISSN Boys Team - Bundaberg Netball Carnival

Our QISSN boys team competed in the Bundaberg Netball Carnival on Sunday 19 March. Despite being together for only 3 ½ weeks the results were quite good and better than expected. Our first game was against Bundaberg State High School who are an experienced and skilled team, we held our own for the first quarter but BSHS were too strong and beat us 15-37. Our second game was against St Luke’s Anglican School, this was a much better match for us as they had similar experience and preparation time as us, it was a good game to watch and we came away with the win 21-12. Our third game was against BSHS again, this was also a good game to watch and we closed the gap from the first game with BSHS winning 15-17.

There were some great positives and takeaways from the day and I’m excited to see how this team progresses and what we can achieve after a few more months together - for now, we'll celebrate coming second place at our first carnival!

Rowing Development Camp - Oarsome Success!

NEW_SHALOM_ROWING_LOGO.jpg

Over the weekend, we held our first annual Shalom Rowing Development Camp at Bucca. All the rowers, new and experienced, took on new challenges over the weekend. The Seniors tried out sweep rowing (1 oar instead of 2) in the 4 and the big 8. The new rowers had a go at the most difficult boat, the single. Most stayed on top of the water, but a few went for a refreshing dip. We had heaps of fun practicing the capsize drill and getting back into our boats, playing night games, and finished off the weekend with a fun team relay.  There were three teams - Team Archie, Team Emily and the winning team - Team Sam!! We were truly blessed with great weather, great food and great company.

The BIGGEST THANK YOU goes out to our parents and volunteers that assisted over the weekend. We had helpers on the water coaching and boat driving, helpers in the kitchen preparing and cooking all the food, help with boat loading and transporting boats. We truly couldn’t have done it without your help and support. It takes a team to make rowing happen and we are grateful for our team. We are looking forward to our next big Bucca adventure - at our first regatta on Sunday 7 May.

Thank you to our sponsors below. We will have a new team shirt soon to show off thanks to these businesses.
