AFL National Development Championships

Congratulations to HPP student Zoe S who played for the Brisbane Lions Academy at 2023 AFL National Development Championships - U16 Girls. Zoe plays in the midfield.

The Lions Academy played against GWS, Tasmania, Gold Coast, Northern Territory and Sydney Swans.  The Vics, SA and WA are in another pool.

With a lot of time, effort and travel involved, this is an outstanding achievement, firstly being selected, then continuing with training in Brisbane and then representing the Lions team, in these holidays.

Well done and congrulations Zoe!!

Australian Rowing Championships 2023

Jada C had a wonderful oppportunity competing in Perth at the Australian Rowing Championships during the last week of Term one.  She gained great experience and had to race in some intense weather conditions.  One day it was so cold, windy and rough, rowing was suspended. Throughout the ten, 2 km races, Jada competed in during the week, she finished 6th in her E final.  Jada represented Shalom well and should be very proud of her achievements considering she is in Year 10 and was rowing against girls in Year 11 and 12 in the Open School Girls Single Scull section.

Super effort Jada! Bring on 2024.

National Surf Rescue Championships

Congratulations to SILVER Medalists Lizzie P, Harriet M and Amelia W who represented Bundaberg Surf Club in the Under 17s Surf Patrol Team competition at the National Surf Rescue Championships held at Trigg Beach in Perth, WA.

The Surf Patrol competition is a 5-part event where only the top 2 teams in the state can qualify to compete. The team did a 20-question theory paper, a team swim, a tube rescue, a 4-person resuscitation and a 15-minute patrol scenario which involved an aggressive male who ended up putting a stake through his foot and had an angina attack, a suspected sea snake bite, two annoying people and a boarder continually being in the patrol area.

Well done to the girls!! A superb team effort.

Table Tennis Final - Term 1 School Sport Recap

On Monday 26 March, Shalom took on Bundaberg State High 1 in the Table Tennis grand final.  Both teams brought talented players to the game, and a close competition was ensured.

Lincoln confirmed his status as a quality player by winning all three of his match ups, and only losing one game to Bundaberg SHS’s top ranked player.

Christina won two of her match ups – one match in three games, the other match in two (with one game going to 15/13). Some very tight competition!

Isaac played gallantly and performed well, but was unable to secure a win in his matches.

The final result was extremely close with both teams winning 10 games each, however Shalom claimed the title winning five matches to four.

Thanks to our players: Lincoln, Christina and Isaac for their efforts throughout the season; Jessica who also played well throughout, but was unavailable for the final; and Elijah who participated with great spirit in his first season playing for Shalom, and admirably volunteered to fill in when there were gaps in other teams.

We look forward to more players joining in the next school sport season.

Ten Pin Bowling - Senior Summer Sport

Shalom has had a very successful summer season with a team of one player - Thomas B. Thomas has had his best season in four years and continues to hone his bowling skills.

He achieved some personal bests this season. He increased his average across the season from 94 – 110 pins and achieved his highest game score of 146. Thomas took home two trophies on our finals afternoon.

Highest Game (handicap) – 246 pins

Interschool Team winner (handicap) – Shalom College.

Thomas has placed the Shalom team in a great position at the top of both the scratch and handicap Interschool competition for 2023. It will be up to the juniors in Term three to try and hold onto that position.
