UQ Science Ambassadors 2023

The UQ Science Ambassador program is run by the University of Queensland. It is designed to raise the profile of Science with our school community. It does this by recognising high-achieving and motivated Year 11 senior science students.

These students are expected to champion Science at Shalom College by developing and delivering events that focus on Science. They are responsible for running the Science Club during Terms 2 and 3. This is a weekly lunch time club that is designed to ignite a passion for science in the junior year levels. Students participate in fun and interesting science practicals such as chemistry experiments and dissections along with other fun quizzes and competitions. Science club got off to a great start this week with groups undertaking a practical activity to grow crystals which will be entered in the National Crystal Growing competition, run by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.

The UQ Science Ambassadors will also be heavily involved in the planning and running of Science Week activities in August this year.

As a reward for their participation in the UQ Science Ambassador program students are given a laboratory coat with their name and the school crest monogrammed on it. The University of Queensland also provides them with a tie badge.

The Year 11 UQ Science Ambassadors for 2023 are:

Neha A, Zain A, Isabel A, Tenamo A, Jayden A, Ella B, Sam C, Cait D, Charlie D, Kay H, Steven P, Bailey R, Atlanta S, Ruby T, Olivia W, and Arielle Y
