Japanese Students

The Japanese club recently completed a Sakura art project to celebrate the arrival of spring in Japan. The members of the club worked to create a beautiful piece of artwork that captured the essence of the Sakura, or cherry blossom, which is a cherished symbol of Japan. The artwork featured the pink petals and graceful branches that symbolise renewal and new beginnings. Students are able to take their artworks home to celebrate with their mums for Mother’s Day.

Following on with Japanese beautiful words we are looking at the word Shinrinyoku this week. Shinrinyoku also known as "forest bathing" or "forest therapy," is a practice that originated in Japan and involves immersing oneself in nature to improve one's physical and mental well-being. The term "shinrinyoku" literally means "taking in the forest atmosphere," and the practice involves slowing down, engaging the senses, and connecting with the natural world. Shinrinyoku has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure and heart rate, boost the immune system, and improve overall mood. It has become increasingly popular around the world as a way to promote wellness and reconnect with the natural world. Maybe this weekend families here at Shalom can practice some Shinrinyoku somewhere in our beautiful region.
