From the Library

Some of our students will very soon be participating in the Reader’s Cup competition. On Thursday 8 June, 10 Year 7 and 8 students will travel to Rosedale State School to compete and on Wednesday 2 August, 10 Year 9 and 10 students will go to Kepnock State High School.

Readers Cup is organised by the QLD Branch of the Children's Book Council of Australia and is a statewide competition for young readers. Teams of four to five students read a set of books together, and then compete with other teams to answer quiz questions from the books. Winners from regional competitions go on to compete in a state final.
The competition was introduced in 2004 to celebrate 50 years of CBCA in Queensland. It catered for Years 6-8 as a single competition then later split into two sections of 6/7 and 8/9. As Year 7 transitioned into high school in 2015 the competition changed to 5/6 and 7/8. In 2017 a Year 9-10 competition was added in Wide Bay Region and from 2020 there is a state final held in all three sections.

Programs such as this not only inspire a love of literature but develop skills in collaborative work.

Look out for information regarding our upcoming Library/English department event: the resurrected First Draft festival which will focus on Queensland and ‘home-grown’ literary talents.
