QISSN Wrap-Up 2023

BOYS TEAM – 7 WINS, 2 DRAWS & 2 LOSSES!

After 4 months of trainings, trial games and tournaments we finally headed to Brisbane in the first week of the school holidays to compete at QISSN!

With 64 girl’s teams, 18 boy’s teams and world class selectors in attendance, the QISSN Carnival is the ultimate Netball Competition in Australia.

For a team of 10 boys that had basically never played netball before, our results were just amazing – 7 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses, with a final placement of 5th out of the 18 teams. The level of netball that we got to was brilliant and I was so proud of the constant effort and continual building in every game that we played.

One of my favourite phrases for sports teams is ‘we will get the result that we deserve’ and we absolutely did, this was due to the outstanding commitment and hard work that this group of young men demonstrated across the entire Netball Program.

Deservedly, our Captain, Keenan M was named MVP for the team, and he was also named in the Allstars Merit Team along with 11 other incredibly talented athletes.

Our week was wonderful, filled with superb netball, fun group activities and creating connections with the best group of Students and Staff, that all represented Shalom beautifully.

I am grateful to have been on this journey and hope that we can challenge for a higher placing in 2024!

GIRLS TEAM - AMELIARANNE WELLS DIVISION 4 TROPHY WINNERS!

The team this year came together beautifully and had good connections both on and off court. Fabulous netball was played with some high-octane moments and edge of your seat thrills!

We had mixed results through the pool games but remained team-spirited and executed a strong finish through the finals series, winning our last 4 games and beating Mt Alvernia College in the Division 4 Grand Final to bring home the Ameliaranne Wells Trophy. This is our first divisional win since 2018 so it was a wonderful finish to this year’s QISSN Program and gave cause for celebration.

Co-captain Bailey G was named MVP for the team – her good sportsmanship and extensive netball abilities stood out during the carnival, and this was duly noted by our opposing teams.

It was a pleasure sharing this experience with this team of young ladies and over all a great campaign.
