Year 9 and Year 10 Subject Selection Evening

This information evening has been delayed by one week and will now take place in the Performing Arts Precinct on Tuesday 22 August.

The information session for students and parents of Year 8 students selecting subject choices for Year 9, in 2024 will commence at 6.30pm. The information session for students and parents of Year 9 students selecting subject choices for Year 10 in 2024 will commence at 7pm.

Both presentations are short information sessions covering the subject selection process and platform we use to make subject choices online. They will also cover information about the number of Core and Elective subjects’ students are required to study, and where to access information about the subjects offered in each year level.

There will be no specific subject information given on each of the different subjects available to study because of the sheer volume on offer. This information is available in the Subject Selection Book. Learning Area Coordinators will be available on the night to address any questions you may have regarding the selection of subjects to study.

The timeline around the Year 9 and Year 10 subject selections are as follows:

Monday 14 August - Release of Subject Selection Booklet online
Monday 21 August - Edval WebChoice portal opens for student to select
Tuesday 22 August - Parent Information Evening
Monday 28 August - Signed Edval WebChoice receipt to be handed into Student Reception

NAPLAN

QCAA has released the Student Reports for Year 7 and Year 9 students to schools. The hard copy report will be posted home to parents of those students who participated in NAPLAN this year.

Students are now assessed in 4 proficiency levels:

Exceeding: The student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
Strong: The student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
Developing: The student’s results indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
Needs additional support: The student’s results indicate that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

The following document has been provided by QCAA to explain the change from reporting in numerical bands to proficiency standards for NAPLAN. A hard copy of this document will be enclosed with your child’s NAPLAN report.
