Year 11 ACTS Camp

On the Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 August, thirteen Shalom College students attended the ACTS (A Chance to Serve) Camp in Yeppoon, along with eight other colleges from around the Rockhampton Diocese. During the three days, we were able to connect and share with like-minded peers through a range of different activities. We learnt that our job, as leaders, is not only to be the best versions of ourselves, but most importantly to build an ‘army’ of leaders that will represent Shalom well. The range of activities helped to build our confidence, leadership skills and to embrace individuality.

On the second night of the camp, we were given the chance to serve one another by participating in a ritual that was held. As Jesus served disciples, we too became servant leaders ourselves. On our faith and leadership journey, we walked with Christ and prepared for our future. David Jorna, the facilitator of the camp, moulded our mindsets and taught us to bring out what God put in.

On behalf of the students that attended Year 11 ACTS Camp this year, we would like to give a big thank you to Mr McMahon, Mrs Freeman and Mrs Petersen for allowing us to have this amazing opportunity to grow as leaders. From organising us for the camp and collecting our forms, to your continual support over the three days. You are greatly appreciated.

Below are some reflections from the students who attended.

From ACTS Camp I was able to take away many skills that I can use throughout my leadership journey. The one that stuck with me the most was, “what does this moment require of me?” Ella B

I found ACTS camp to be a great way out of my shell, to try new things, and develop self-confidence. I built a lot of friendships, and I even found my birthday twin. Josh J

ACTS allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and realise the many different ways one can lead.  Steven P

ACTS camp allowed me to realise everyone’s own individuality and taught me how to influence people positively to bring out what God put in them.  Jaslyn P

I took away friendships from this year and last year who I have grown in faith and kept in touch with, I’m re-meeting some Gladstone friends at Ignite Summer camp.  Cecilia T

Class Masses

Each Religious Education class is allocated to a Wednesday morning 8am Mass in Loyola Chapel. The class, along with another, co-hosts this Parish Mass by taking the roles of readers and processors. When your student has an upcoming class Mass, you will receive a notification or an invitation to attend. We warmly welcome all to this weekly joint Parish School celebration. The Year 7 and 8 classes will be hosting over the next few weeks:
