Term 3 Tutoring Timetable
Tutoring is offered by a number of teaching staff across a range of subject areas outside of class time. Please refer to the below Term 3 Tutoring Timetable and encourage your child to make contact with the teacher if they feel they would like additional assistance via tutoring.
The tutoring timetable has been uploaded to the College website and is available on SIA. Tutoring commences this week.
Year 10 Personal Futures
Today students attended a briefing for their Personal Futures Day on Friday 25 July. During Personal Futures Day students will spend the day gathering information to assist them in making decisions around Year 11 subject choices to assist their future pathway. It is important that all Year 10 students participate in this day.
Senior School Subject Selection Information Evening – will be held Tuesday 29th July in the Performing Arts Precinct commencing at 6.30pm. I understand that there may be a clash for some families with the Bundaberg Eisteddfod. Please contact me if you would like further information. It is not compulsory that students attend, but it is advised that parents attend the evening.
During the evening there will be presentations on the QCE system and the ATAR. The subject selection process for Year 11 will also be explained. This online process is like that used last year to select Year 10 subjects.
Heads of Department will be available to discuss the variety of subjects on offer and to answer questions you may have. Initial questions such as the content and structure of courses and details of assessment are easily answered by reading the 2026 Senior Subject Selection Guide. This document is available on the College website: https://sites.google.com/view/personal-futures-shalomcollege. It also can be accessed by students in SIA via the Subject Selection Dashboard in the Year 10 Personal Futures page. There are a variety of resources here that students will be using on Personal Futures Day.
SET Plan Interviews will take place on Monday 11th August. This date has been designated a home study day for Year 10 students. Soon parents will receive an email with details about how to book and attend the SET Plan interview with your student.

End of Semester One Report Cards Publish Dates
Year 11 (Unit 1) and Year 12 (Unit 3) report cards will be published via Sia on Monday 23 June while Year 7-10 End of Semester 1 report cards will be published via Sia on Friday 25 July. Report cards will be available for parents through your computer (Sia > Parent Lounge > Academic Reports) or through your phone app (Shalom App > Links/Contacts > Links > Parent Lounge > Academic Reports). More specific information about individual assessment items may be viewed through Sia > My Students. Students can access their reports through their computer (Sia > Services & Support > Applications > Student Café).
Please note that in 2025, only an overall grade for each subject studied will be reported. Behaviour and Application feedback is now given through Sia > Learner Attributes. This method of reporting the Learner Attributes is more detailed and ‘live’, improving the communication with students and parents.
If you have any questions about assessment results, please contact the relevant classroom teacher. For any other enquiries, feel free to contact me (maherb@shalomcollege.com).
SIA – LOG ON NOW! GET THE PHONE APP!
‘Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.’ -Warren Buffet
A parent’s role in the education of their child is vital. Student outcomes will be maximised when parents and teachers are both involved in their child’s education and have positive interactions. Sia is a fantastic way for parents to be fully informed about student progress, assessment due dates, news items, upcoming events, assessment results etc.
Sia, and the Shalom phone app, have been available to parents since the beginning of 2022. Currently, our parent login rate is slightly lower than the end of last year. We would like all our parents to be successfully logged into Sia as soon as possible. Attached in the link below is a Parent “Everything You Need To Know About Sia’ Guide which includes how to log in for the first time. The phone app is super-convenient – a must-have for parents!
Our IT team will have sent the login details for Sia to all new parents to the school at the beginning of the year. If you have misplaced these details, or are having technical difficulties, please contact our Shalom IT department via email at 520_shalomit@rok.catholic.edu.au or phone 41558131 during office hours 8am - 3.30pm Monday to Friday, Tuesdays are 8.30am - 3.30 pm.

Catholic Education Week
This annual celebration celebrates Catholic Schools as communities of faith, hope and love. Once again, we will begin the celebrations with a Catholic Education Week Mass on Sunday 27th July at 5:30pm at The Holy Rosary Church. Students and staff from each of the four Bundaberg Schools will participate in ministries at this Mass. It is also a wonderful chance for our Shalom community to come together with the Parish. We hope to see many of you there.
Masses
Each Religious Education class will also cohost a Wednesday morning Mass at 8am in our chapel. This Mass occurs during term time and is a Parish Mass, so it is open to all. The Mass finishes before the 8.40am bell. Religious Education teachers will email a notice to families prior to their allocated Mass, and we encourage attendance. Upcoming Masses will be hosted by our year 10, 9 and 8 students.
Wednesday 23 July Mr Brett Wyatt's 10 E & C
Wednesday 30 July Mrs Amelia Morine's 10 A & Tayla Glasspool's 10 F
Wednesday 6 August Mr David Gahan's 9 C & F
Also, if you would like to join in other Parish services, the Catholic Parish of Bundaberg advertises Mass times at https://www.bundabergcatholic.net.au/mass-prayer/

Michael is a valued member of Lingiari House and has been for many years. He is always a fantastic help with all the “normal” things senior students do, like being a Buddy for a Year 7 (he did this last year for Isaac F) and helping with day-to-day things in PC and the like. Michael also quietly volunteers to help with everything that is happening in the House, whether it directly impacts him or not. His efforts at co-ordinating our senior bombardment team this year have been great. The current Year 12 cohort in Lingiari are an excellent group and Michael exemplifies their quiet commitment to making our House the best it can be.
In amongst Michael’s commitment to his own studies and whatever is happening in Lingiari, he is also heavily involved in the Shalom music program. His commitments to music sees him attending rehearsals during lunchtimes and “before school” sessions.
Michael is a wonderful role model for our younger students, and this is perhaps the most important impact he has. Vincent Lingiari quietly inspired the Gurindji people to be involved and work together, and Michael certainly does this through his interactions and presence in our House.
If you would like to submit any sporting achievements about your child/children along with a photo, please email your submissions to Simon_Gills@rok.catholic.edu.au
Please note photo submissions must only include photos of students from Shalom.
You can also keep up to date with anything sport related via our Facebook page - Shalom College Sport.

Hockey
Shalom had quite the number of students compete at both the girls and boys U14 State Hockey Championships during the school holidays.
The Girls were part of the Bundaberg U14 rep hockey team that competed in the State Championships in Toowoomba. This team finished 4th in the State!
Shalom super star, Sophie A, was awarded the "Player of the Tournament". This is a significant achievement for the goal scoring machine. Sophie also gained selection in the U/14 QLD Embers Hockey Team.
The Boys were members of the Bundaberg U14 rep hockey team that competed in the State Championships in Rockhampton. This team only lost one game the whole championships, and this was in the Grand Final against Brisbane. Not bad for a very young team from the country competing against top age teams.
Levi K gained selection in the U/14 QLD Sabres Hockey Team and Hamish C was named as a QLD Shadow player.

Congratulations to all players involved!!!
Walking
Koby I represented Shalom at the 2025 Queensland All Schools Road Walking Championships in Brisbane. He secured a bronze medal in the U16 Men’s 5,000m race walk with an impressive personal best time of 26:09—a huge improvement of 2 minutes and 4 seconds from his race just a few weeks ago in Canberra!
This championship also doubled as the Queensland Athletics State Road Racing Championships, where Koby once again claimed bronze in the U16 Men’s 5,000m race walk.
Congratulations, Koby, on your incredible effort, determination, and outstanding results!

Murri Touch Football Tournament
Congratulations to Shalom students Kobey W, Preston J, Seb K, Indi B and Destiny S who competed for Shalom and were awesome! Shalom were red hot favourites, going unbeaten throughout the tournament, but were unfortunately pipped at the post by 1 point in the Grand Final. The students were so respectful to all and encouraging all the other participants. Coach Stranieri was extremely proud of their achievement! This style of Touch Football was new to the students, so it was trial by fire from the first match, but Shalom took it in their stride and smashed it!
Kristi A from Shalom also participated in the tournament and was part of the winning team for PCYC Maroon team.
Kobey also took out the Male sprint race by a couple meters and won himself some prizes from various local establishments.

QISSN 2025 - WHAT A JOURNEY!
Our whirlwind of preparation, blood, sweat and tears culminated in the most awesome QISSN experience right here at home!
Our QISSN week started wonderfully with a fabulous gourmet buffet breakfast at Coach Kylee’s on the Sunday morning before heading to Shalom to proudly rep as the host school team. Across the week the team made sure they had heaps of fun together off-court with sleepovers, dinners, gym sessions and attending Fun Night.
Our incredible girls were on fire from the get-go with strong, dominating performances, outstanding work-rates and superb teamwork. They finished the top of their pool and made it all the way to the Division 3 Grand Final, ending their QISSN campaign as Runners-Up. An amazing 8/10 wins and an achievement to be proud of jumping from 29/64 last year to 18/64 teams this year!
As Laura Geitz so beautifully put it during the Opening Ceremony 'it’s the team-ship and connections both on and off the court that matter most' – and our girls truly embodied that spirit every step of the way.
* To our captains – your devotion & leadership was inspiring
* To our Coach Kylee Johnstone & Manager Pelz Kaufusi – you guys are definitely the dream team!
* To our dedicated Sponsorship team – thank you for your massive contributions
* To our amazing Shalom & Bundaberg communities – thanks a trillion for your support!
Special thanks to Special thanks to Jim Ybema from Hitz FM 93.9 for judging our Fun Night Vinnies Challenge, Emily Gordon - Coronis Bundaberg for the balloon garland surprise and Tony from The Waves Sports Club for treating the girls to well-deserved pizza and soft drinks after the GF – your kindness meant the world!
An enormous congratulations to Tenne B, our youngest player and MVP for Shalom, who was also named in the Rising Stars Team – what a superstar!
We’re beyond proud of our Shalom community for showing up and standing strong behind our girls – and to our Shalom Netball Team, who fought with heart, courage, and unity until the very end… Shalom Chaverim ❤️

High Performance Program
After School Activities
Camps
Peter_Robinson@rok.catholic.edu.au
In Term 2 and 3 your son or daughter will be involved in an outdoor education camp, held at Chaverim. The camps will be in Core Studies classes, so the students will go out with their Core Studies teacher or in some instances, another teacher.
Camp Information
Students will participate in outdoor education activities as the camp is part of a three-year program. These Outdoor Education programs aim to provide an additional approach to the personal and spiritual development of your child and the greater Shalom community. This three-year program has specific objectives designed to provide.
- An atmosphere of cooperation between students, which can be applied at school, in the family and on the sports field. This may be characterized by cooperation, encouragement and concern for fellow students.
- Knowledge, skills and attitudes that contribute to a sense of responsibility, self-reliance, cooperation and harmony within oneself, with other people, and with the natural environment.
- Opportunities for participants to develop knowledge, low level skills and attitudes for participation in a number of outdoor pursuits.
- Knowledge, skills and attitudes towards a ‘minimum impact ethic’ consistent with the environment in which activities take place.
Each participant involved in the program will be given the opportunity to:
- “Look into the mirror” to see how their behaviours, both good and bad, impact their fellow participants.
- Participate in physically and mentally challenging activities while remaining safe on physical, mental and emotional levels.
- Experience and practice Christian values by living and working together in an open and encouraging atmosphere.
- Develop low level skills in a number of outdoor activities as well as a basic understanding of the associated equipment and safety precautions.
- Experience achievement in a non-competitive ‘win-win’ environment.
The camp also gives the teacher and students the opportunity to get to know each other well.
NO PHONES ARE ALLOWED ON THESE OUTDOOR EDUCATION CAMPS AT CHAVERIM.
The staff in charge will collect phones at the start of camp and return them just before 3.00 pm on day three. Alternatively, keep the phone at home for safe keeping.
I am sure the students will survive without their phones for 3 days and then they can focus on the outdoor education opportunities. If students need to call home for any reason the staff will let them use the phone at the Chaverim office.
The students will be transported to Chaverim by the College bus on the first day of camp. Students will need to be at school by 8.30 am the morning of the camp; they will return to the College at approximately 2.45 pm in time to catch the bus etc on the third day of camp.
Please find attached:
- Camp Program
- Equipment List - Clothes should be functional and suitable for outdoor and adventure activities and provide adequate protection from the elements. Camp is not a time to be fashion conscious; clothes need to be very practical. Students are also to be reminded that Chaverim is a Shalom College campus and all the usual College expectations apply. The wearing of unnecessary jewellery, make-up and inappropriate clothing is not permitted.
- Administration of Medication to Students form - if your child requires medication while on Camp please complete the form and hand it to your Teacher prior to departing on Camp.
Please login to Parent Lounge to give permission for your child to attend the Camp.
Once there click on the ‘Events and Payments’ tab and you will find a link to Year 8 Camp. Here you will be able to give permission for your child to attend, as well as view details about the camp. You will also be asked to review and verify that your child’s medical details are correct.
To check your child’s medical information is current, please click on the ‘student details’ tab and go to ‘medical details’. Please make sure that the following sections are completed so that your child can participate in all activities on camp.
- Can Swim 25m
- Tetanus Up-To-Date
- Medicare Number
In the ‘medical conditions’ section, click ‘add new’ and you will see a drop-down box and notes section where you can also note any dietary requirements, sleeping issues and other details that you feel may be relevant to your child’s well-being at the camp. Once you are happy with the information you have provided, please click ‘verify’.
Please also check your contact details and phone numbers are current, as we will be using this information to contact you if needed.
It is very important that all information in the Parent Lounge is current as teachers will use this information in case of an emergency and to support the wellbeing of your child.
